Development Milestones
A guide, not a checklist - every child develops at their own pace
0-12 Months
Cognitive: Recognizes familiar faces and voices, follows moving objects with eyes, explores objects by putting them in mouth.
Social-Emotional: Smiles in response to others, shows discomfort when separated from caregiver, expresses joy and frustration through sounds and movements.
Motor: Lifts head while on tummy, rolls over, sits with support, reaches for and grabs objects, transfers objects between hands.
12-24 Months
Cognitive: Says 50-200 words, understands simple commands, points to body parts when asked.
Social-Emotional: Shows affection to familiar people, has temper tantrums, imitates others' actions.
Motor: Walks independently, climbs stairs with support, uses spoon to feed self, scribbles with crayon.
24-36 Months
Cognitive: Uses 1000+ words, forms short sentences, asks "why?" and "what?" questions.
Social-Emotional: Plays with other children, takes turns (with help), identifies emotions in others.
Motor: Runs and jumps, climbs playground structures, uses toilet independently (with help), draws simple shapes.
3-5 Years
Cognitive: Tells stories, counts to 10+, recognizes letters and numbers, understands basic time concepts.
Social-Emotional: Plays cooperatively with others, follows rules (most of the time), expresses feelings with words.
Motor: Hops on one foot, uses scissors, writes name, dresses independently.
